A report on the Ocala Star-Banner last August 17, 2013 reveals the extent of the damage caused by a recent thunderstorm over the Ocala region. One home, in particular, was struck directly by lightning, which burned a hole in the roof and left the building in flames. Fortunately, firefighters were able to contain the damage and the wiring has since been fixed by electricians.
Ocala, Florida, is prone to thunderstorms and holds the record for having the most number of lightning strikes in the country at over 1.4 million per year. Such conditions can be particularly damaging-beyond-further-use on electrical appliances and the wiring of homes. Luckily, homeowners can rely on a capable Clearwater electrician to repair and replace any damaged systems.
The $150,000 brick home was struck by lightning that Saturday, as the region was experiencing inclement weather. Indeed, the storm that brewed over Marion County was unforeseen. Firefighters called to the scene covered the hole created by the lightning with a tarp and moved furniture out of the way; the fire was thankfully contained in the attic before it could move to the rest of the house.
The owner of the home, one Hisham Shanawany, was fortunately out of the house that day, so nobody was hurt; apparently, Shanawany had eye surgery two days ago, and things wouldn’t have looked any better for him had he been caught in the lightning strike. It was thanks to a concerned neighbor’s phone call that the authorities were able to respond to the lightning strike before any serious damage was caused. While his home was saved, his home’s wiring will need repaired, and even then, the power lines connecting to his home will also have to be restored after being knocked down by the storm.
Lightning can severely damage a home’s electrical wiring, and it only takes one strike to knock out the system for good. Shorted fuses and burned out wiring are common casualties of lightning strikes on electrical systems. Homeowners shouldn’t fret, however, as they can call upon a company like Theta Electric to repair any damaged Clearwater electrical panels.
Those caught in the middle of a thunderstorm should be very careful, as the bad weather can bring about all sorts of trouble. People are advised to stay indoors to avoid getting struck by lightning. Should your home or building’s wiring be damaged by lightning during a thunderstorm, calling in a licensed electrician to replace the wiring shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
